The purpose of this study was to verify if the green area performs its roles properly which occupies high ratio of the new-town planning stage and to propose suggestions. It analyzed qualitative and quantitative changes in green files for 10 years since the creation of the new-town ‘Bundang’.
Through TM image analysis taken in 1985, 1996 and 2006, damages on the green area were analyzed, and through the comparison of the images in 1996 and 2006, qualitative and quantitative changes in green area by land use as well as changes in total amount of green area were reviewed.
From the study, it was found that 11.0㎢ out of the green area was developed into urbanization area and in total amount of green area 6.9% of total width of Bundang has increased for 10 years because of the growth of forest and Tancheon greening project. By land use, the increasing rate was high in park green area, roads and streams. As green area increased much in apartment blocks among residential areas, it is confirmed that the importance of the green space in the block should not be overlooked. To review qualitative changes as well as quantitative changes in green area, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) analysis was performed. It showed that NDVI in all major subject areas was increased
