This study focuses on the construction and use of the Yusam in paintings, individual diaries, and documents of the Joseon period. There are no documents or remains of the Yusam, which was a raincoat in the Joseon period. Upper class men and envoys to Japan wore the Yusam for their long trips. The Yusam also was one of the necessities for soldiers who wore the Yusam made with materials; Ji-Yusam was made of paper and Mok-Yusam was made of cotton. The shape of the Yusam was a kind of cloak, as seen through some pictures in genre painting and the records of the annals of the Joseon Dynasty. The Yusam through the Jeungbosallimgyeongje was made of silk with oil for making it waterproof. When the Yusam was made through the method in the Jeungbosallimgyeongje, the construction of the Yusam was divided into 8 parts. A width of a part of the Yusam is about 38㎝ and the length of it is 149.76㎝. The shape of it is a kind of cloak as similar as pictured in the Joseon period and also similar as the Dubong which was a raincoat in Qing Dynasty. This reproduction of Yusam is based on the record in Jeungbosallimgyeongje. While it must not be considered a replica of a real one, it can be useful for making a raincoat of the Joseon period in a historical drama and film.
