‘Shen Si’, the first chapter of The Literary Mind and the Carving Dragon creation theory, is a creation of general studies. The part of Shen Si is about imagination-oriented artistic conception in pursuance of literary creation. Liu Xie considers that ‘Zhi Qi’ in ‘Shen Yu Wu You’ takes important role. The Connotation of Zhi Qi is interpreted variously by scholars. However, there are not many theories that study Zhi Qi’s various meanings concretely and throughly. artistic conception is complicated and special psychological activity. Moreover, The words-‘Zhi’, ‘Qi’, ‘Zhi Qi’-have diversity and abstractness originally. Therefore, It can be difficult to study various meanings that Zhi Qi has. However, Liu Xie refers the concept forming process of vigor, talent, temperament, philosophy and feeling in the chapter of Ti Xing. It explains that the artistic process is philosophy and feeling activity based on vigor, talent and temperament. Therefore, this paper interprets Zhi as ‘philosophy and feeling’, Qi as ‘vigor’, ‘talent’ and ‘temperament’ based on the chapter of Ti Xing, and examines how they have effect on Shen Si activity. It is considered that examining Zhi Qi’s meanings helps to understand Liu Xie’s Shen Si theory.
