This study examines the factors which affect the decision on firm’s use of foreign currency denominated debt. Especially this study tries to fill the gap between previous studies and there fore leads to harmonized results on the relationship between NNEs and the use of foreign debt. That is, the interaction between the location where foreign subsidiaries are located and firm characteristics which induce to choose the foreign subsidiaries are located and firm characteristics which induce to choose the foreign location or related to foreign location decision affect the use of foreign debt. Firms with more foreign subsidiaries in developing region and lower credit status are more likely to use foreign currency denominated debt. On the other hand, firms with more foreign subsidiaries in advanced region and higher R&D are less likely to use foreign currency denominated debt. These results show that financing pattern is different depending on the foreign location and firm characteristics. And thereby the effect of foreign debt use is expected to be different depending MNE’s foreign location, strategy, and firm characteristics.
