2009 Korean National Standard for High School Environmental Education emphasized the importance of climate change education and included climate change in the curriculum as an independent topic to focus on. Accordingly, six new environment textbooks have been developed. The present study analyzed the new textbooks for their representations of climate change concepts, with regard to the textbooks" possible contributions to students" conceptual development. Based on literature review on secondary students" concepts of climate change, 13 science concepts critical to students" conceptual development were identified and used to review the textbooks. The textbooks were analyzed for the coverage of the 13 science concepts and for their ways of presenting those concepts. Findings and implications for climate change education are elaborated.
