This study aims to provide policy implications by analyzing the economic effects of the R&D investment in the New Growth Engine Industries.
To this end, this study analyzes the effects on labor productivity of the R&D stock in the New Growth Engine Industries by using DSUR estimation techniques about 21,140 companies panel data from 1984 to 2007 years.
The results of this study show that the elasticity of R&D stock on labor productivity are different depending on industry.
This study also conducts an portfolio analysis to determine the selection of industries for the most intensive support among the New Growth Engine Industries based on estimated R&D elasticity, average annual growth rate of value-added, absolute industry size(total sales, the number of employees).
In summary, under a budget constraint, Korean industries will prepare for possible changes in future growth paradigms by the sustained R&D investment.
