Although emission limits have become increasingly stringent in the past decade, road transport remains the most important source of urban air pollution in korea with respect to NOx (nitrogen oxides). Several studies have indicated that in particular on-road NOx emissions of light-duty diesel vehicles might substantially exceed emission levels as identified during emissions testing in the laboratory. This study is to investigate the existing knowledge gaps through measuring NOx emission and calculating emission factors under real driving condition for 4 light-duty diese vehicles that comply with Euro 4-5 emission limits and comprise two small RVs, two small transports. The selected vehicles were tested on 3 real driving test conditions that comprise air conditioner working and test sell temperature with 0℃, 10℃ respectively.
For the reproduceed emission factors from 4 vehicle types which have identical engine with test vehicle, 2009 annual Nox emssion rate of korea was increased to 182% as compared with normal condition. And also, the findings of this study indicate that the current type approval emissions testing condition fails to capture the wide range of potential on-road emissions. A promising remedy for this problem may be attained by supplementing current laboratory cycle conditions with complementary real driving conditions such as winter and summer ambient temperature.
