This thesis studies on the origin and meaning of the number ‘twelve’ in the old Chinese almanac, periodic, and chronicle system. They say, Chinese calendar has been influenced by the old orient, that is, old Babylon calendar. but old Chinese founded the Jupiter’s 12-year cycle around the sun. And they also put importance and symbolic meaning on this cycle. Chinese also considered the polar star and the Great Bear the center of the sky as well as cosmos. They calculated the number ‘twelve’ as the stated number of almanac, periodic, and chronical system, which would be contrasted with the stated number ‘ten’. The cosmologists of Han dynasty corresponded the sky, with the earth, and the man. They matched this meaningful number ‘twelve’ with their political and everyday systematic regulations. This correspondence of macrocosm and microcosm was very prevailed during the Han dynasty. This concept has been still remained and influenced on the Chinese and other Asian Chinese character cultural area.
