This paper examines different types of subjective modes of speakers in processing of deviant discourse. In our study, deviant discourses are defined as the discourses produced by the speakers whose linguistic behaviors are assessed as abnormal. Two types of deviant speakers were chosen, as they were presumed to have reduced ability of French : two French patients of agrammatism and a learner of French as L2 whose L1 was changed from French to Korean. The task was to tell a story looking at a series of pictures. Our results showed that the subjective modes in processing of discourse were composed of constituents, such as the introduction of new entities and their anaphors, metalinguistic segments, expressions of dictum, insertion of subjective judgement, discourse organization, and strategies of a speaker. The difference between the two types of deviant speakers was remarkable in the strategies used to compensate for their difficulties. We infer that it is due to the level of their difficulties in speech production model. In conclusion, the hypotheses on dissociations between explicit /implicit processing, and between reference/ modalizing forms of language were confirmed through our case study. However, further studies will be needed to support our case study.
