This study deals with a survey of local residents in the preliminary application area for biosphere reserve on regional revitalization, image improvement, and community participation. The results can be summarized as follows. First, regional resources are highly valued and expected for regional development through promotions of agriculture, forestry, and fishery and ecotourism. Second, conservation and restoration of ecosystem is necessary to improve its image. Third, the biosphere reserve application is expected to provide positive effects on promotion and creation of regional resources. Fourth, local resident participation is highly expected, and thus, it is necessary to form a consultative group in order to facilitate project participation of local residents. According to the local resident survey, liaison and an integrated management system of regional nature, history, and culture are needed. Furthermore, an embodied support system is required for an abiding management.
