This article intends to analyze the income inequality among the 12 OECD countries, focusing on production regime and social policy, particularly from the Varieties of Capitalism perspective. Since the recent financial crisis, Korea’s economic inequality has condensed and expanded. The worsened income inequality since the financial crisis can be explained by the effects of globalization from the outside and restructuring process of social-economic system based on the neo-liberalism from the inside. There is volatility in the index of social policy and production regime after the financial crisis. Despite increasing welfare expenditure and social safety-net resulted from the base effect, there is no warrant of the effectiveness in social policies. This is because quantitative approach of the government in the welfare budgeting, rebuilding social safety-net, and legislation rather than applicability and effectiveness of social policies.
