We call Lee, Tae-jun’s short story an aged form that is deliberately selected in the critical consciousness on modern novels as a form of youth. Really in his short story, we discover a politics of the content, deployed through the elderly, an aesthetic point of view of the writer to respect the old reflected in his creation, and also an aged form that is closely equivalent to his politics. As a result, Lee, Tae-jun’s short novel has characteristics that are almost the exact opposite of modern novels as a form of youth, so as to be a formal resistance and critique. First of all, the writer is not running along aimlessly on this speedy reality, although facing the floating reality of colonial modernity that hurt people, make them miserable, and lead a their downfall. Rather, he creates such a narrative that walks keeping pace with the people who dropped back and became miserable because of their slow. In addition to, Lee, Tae-jun also builds a narrative that coordinates the direction of a current action, based on such a experience that the new world is missing, through characters who kept traces of the past in their beings like the old. Shortly speaking, Lee, Tae-jun’s short story operates a politics of the form as a character- centered, static, and repetitive narrative, which forms a figure of the old character into narrative scroll of portrait. At the same time, It also operates a politics of the form as a narrative of wisdom and courteous listening based on the semantic certainty, which forms experience and wisdom of the old character into narrative last words. Namely, his short novel is a novel that critically involved in modern novels, reminding us that the modern times as youth is never eternal by means of the aged form. This is the odd identity of a modern novel as an aged form.
