Traditional or historical environments are often overlooked unless a design concept calls for traditional elements. To respond to the increasing size of the aging population and the number of elderly with dementia, the image past living environments should be treated as an important design resource, especially the years when today’s elderly were most active, the 60s~80s. To achieve the goal of the study, content analyses of Korean TV soap operas were conducted. 6 houses appearing in 3 dramas from the 1960s~1980s were analyzed based on two categories; characteristics of the living environment in general (walls, floors, ceilings) and details (furniture, lighting, molding, accessories, etc.). As a result, the traditional Hanok was significantly shown in poor environments in the ‘60s after the Korean war. In the ‘70s, Japanese and Western styles were mixed and the exterior of houses were a more modern Japanese style near the ‘80s while furniture and decorations appeared in the Western style. The results of this study is expected to provide emotional support for the elderly and also useful as a resource for the treatment of dementia patients. Although Korea has a long period of traditional culture, there has been a tremendous lack of research for the development of cultural content. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out more active and continuing research in a variety of related fields.
