This study classifies the trends and achievements in prehistoric archaeological research, both in chronological and thematic order, which were conducted in Korea in 2010 and 2011. During this period, many scholars actively examined the following fields: analysis of regional culture, scientific analysis of individual relics, the prevalence of experimental archeology, landscape and restoration of the cognitive system, and in-depth analyses of prehistoric culture in areas outside the Korean peninsula, particularly Northeast China.
In spite of the quantitative and qualitative growth in prehistoric archeology, some problems remain. First, more work needs to be done theorizing the process of the establishment and development of prehistoric culture. Using the rich archaeological data, new theories and models need to be developed to dynamically restore the drive and development process of prehistoric culture. Even in research methodology, most research has focused on an inductive approach, which requires researchers to do the epistemological conversion into problemoriented deductive approach in future studies.
