The purpose of this study is to propose a plan to construct and operate a website providing comprehensive informations about assistive products and related services for the disabled in Korea.
The present conditions of the operation of the information network about assistive technology devices in the nation and in advanced countries were studied to set up a plan for the most suitable information network of assistive technology devices for the disabled in Korea. We have also conducted surveys asking the disabled and the elderly what items should be included as menus of information network for assistive technology and have discussed the method of system construction for assistive technology network through the colloquium. Also, a classification plan was constructed through investigating classification schemes of Korea and International classification of assistive technology devices.
As a result of this study, a plan for the construction of information network consisting of a web site considering specific disabilities and a plan for the operation of the network was proposed. The detailed items of the information nertwork to be included are detailed informations of each assistive products that are available, vocational rehabilitation, health aid, related laws and policies taken from the survey results.
The classification of the assistive technology devices are suggested to take the classification of ISO 9999 for the assistive products for the disabled, however, custom made devices are to be classified in a separate category as suggested in this research.
We present the method of web site construction according to web content accessibility guidelines enacted by web accessibility initiative of world wide web consortium, international standardization organization for elevating web accessibility of assistive technology devices network by the disabled.
Production costs for web site of assistive technology devices network are estimated on the basis of the detailed items suggested in this research. Operation of assistive technology devices network is managed by external service agency, qualification condition of consultant is limited to rehabilitation technology, physical therapist, mechanical technology electronics technology, assistive technology, medical technology. Contents of assistive technology devices network should be updated regularly and the budget for assistive technology devices network needs to be secured stably as a law or government regulation.
