Korean Apis cerana is a gentle, less absconding, and resistant to cold winter. The Korean A. cerana is large as much as the European honeybees, Apis mellifera in terms of body size, and can compete in honey production with A. mellifera. The major threat for A. cerana in Korea is a sacbrood viral disease. This research was conducted from October 2011 to September 2012 at the apiary of RDA, Suwon, Republic of Korea. Sacbrood viral disease can be recognized in two ways, external and internal recognitions. External recognition - in this case, the workers accumulated the dead larvae in front of entrance. In internal recognition - beekeepers should check affected larva positions, head of dead larvae before pupate, or hold the head of dead larva with a blunt forceps, and check the fluid between the body and the skin of dead larva. Sacbrood is caused by a virus; therefore, there is no proper treatment for this disease except sanitation of hives and development of sacbrood viral disease resistant bee stocks. The sustainable ways to control sacbrood viral disease are requeened annually, and develop sacbrood viral disease resistant bee stocks.
