This paper is to examine Zen Buddhism compared with Derrida’s deconstruction. Derida’s intention of it was to search the nature of language to find the universal nature that precedes all language and to discover the border between nature and artifice in the origins and limits of language. As Buddhism was translated from the Sanskrit word ‘dhyana’ meaning ‘meditation’, Zen Buddhism is the intuitive religion learning by direct and actual experience, and it reject the canonized doctrine. Buddhist may escape from the canon in the
process of Buddhist meditation, since he/she could rely on speech and letter. Without the canonized doctrine and guidance of the mind of man directly we may get to reach the awakening of Buddhism; by not others’ power, but seeing own"s nature man may get awakening of Buddhism. As we see the above language is no longer a reliable device for meaningful communication, since language is a sign as the signifier/a signified.
The world of Buddha can be achieved only by the Self Awakening of the Original and in China Zen Buddhism combined with the Tao, and so languages have been used by Zen masters in order to help their students realize the way to the Enlightenment. However, intuition is the awakening as the unfolding of a new world hitherto unperceived in the confusion of a dual-trained mind. Through these we can know that Zen master’s working in practice can not be explained by deconstruction theory, since it is not a tool to change and analyse things, but only how to read texts ‘already written.’
