This study experimentally makes a comparative research for refrigeration performance of a domestic refrigerator-freezer which applied a plate fin-tube evaporator and spiral fin-tube evaporators, and considers a possibility of the spiral fin-tube evaporators as a substitute for the plate fin-tube evaporator. The experiments are conducted with a 2columns 15rows plate fin-tube evaporator and 3 spiral fin-tube evaporators those are downsized from 2columns 15rows to 2column 11rows. The decreasing of the optimum refrigerant charge leads energy consumption of a domestic refrigerator-freezer using 2columns 13rows and 2columns 11rows to reduce 1.5% and 2.8%, respectively, compared with that of the plate fin-tube evaporator. In addition, 2columns 13rows spiral fin-tube evaporator has 3~7% more improved cooling capacity than the plate fin-tube evaporator under the frosting condition.
