In recent years, the demand of energy is more and more increasing while the natural resources have been exhausted. Besides, the pollution of environment caused by vehicles has been being a serious problem. Therefore, many studies have been carried out, especially focus on braking energy regeneration, in order to save energy as well as reduce emission of vehicles. This paper presents a method to solve the above problems. In this paper, a Closed-loop Hydraulic Braking Energy Regeneration System is proposed to reduce the energy consumption by recovering the braking energy. Moreover, a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is designed for the secondary unit control to assess the system response. The system energy has been verified by simulation to evaluate the efficiency of the system. The simulation results indicate that the energy consumption reduction ratio is 55.1% in comparison with the traditional HST and the regenerative efficiency of the proposed system is 63.4%.
