Domestic institutions and organizations which keep and manage the important records, historical manuscripts set up the description elements which can figure out their critical information in order to make various users search and utilize them via internet service. And these organizations allow description elements of their own historical manuscripts DB integrated-searched with connection to Korean History On-line.
However, their description elements has not been integrated in national level but established with separate ways and Korean History On-line has no independent standard to integrate and manage these description elements. Also, historial manuscripts, which are collected records, have various formats and shapes and their sources information including original locations, publishers, receivers and so on are not known. So, for general users who don"t manage them in the organizations, cannot figure out detailed information easily and accurately and it is necessary to prepare systematic and unified standard for their integrated management.
Accordingly, the study aims to review existing standards related to description elements of historical manuscripts and other description elements used differently by each organization"s historical manuscript DB and suggest a standard draft for description elements of historical manuscripts.
In order to do so, I analyze three standards of ISAD(G), KORMARC format-Old Books and KORMARC Cataloging Description Rules(draft)-archivesand figured out current status of 4 historical manuscripts managing organizations and their problems on integrated search. Through these reviews, I set up standard draft for description elements of historical manuscripts and applied it to historical manuscripts of 4 managing organizations and check its suitability.
Based on this study, if description elements which are differently and separately used by each organizations are unified, the efficiency for not only national level management of historical manuscripts but users" utilization of it will be higher.
