Since at least the second half of the 19th century, surgeon has played a principal role in the treatment of cancer. At that time radical excision was a core treatment principle for cancer. But according to understanding of much more cancer biology increased, the cancer treatment paradigm-shift occurred. Today, most cancer patients have being treated by multidisciplinary approach. In this situation surgical teams hold the front line in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. And a surgery, as one part of science has rapidly changed from clinically-oriented science to a technology-oriented profession. Therefore, change of surgeon’s role should be changed for the benefit of our cancer patients, not only to control or cure their disease but also to give more good quality of life. If so, what is a great surgeon in the future? The great surgeon in the next period must have good surgical technique, medical conception, and more morecular biological consensus, comprehension of engineering science, acceptance of continuing professional education and achievement of worldwide mission of cancer treatment. In conclusion, surgeon should be a multi-player and supersurgeon.
