This study analyses media addiction researches from diverse academic fields to find out the research trend, factors and countermeasures of media addiction in Korean society. This study describes a cognitive map of media addiction through analysis of academic researches as well as policy discourses. Most researches and policy discourses are focused on ostensible causes and conditions of media addiction at an individual level using the survey method. Although some mention environmental factors such as nuclear family, school education driven to entrance exam, absence of play culture, parental factors and so on, they mostly lack concrete discussion and effective solution plan for media addiction. To handle the issue of media addiction as a key problem of the Korean society, special consideration and reflection on research methods and topics are essential prerequisites. Additionally, a more active role of media and communication researchers in the procedure of making media addiction policies are required to make them more effective and concrete.
