This paper aims to consider the Joseon Dynasty scholar Hang Wa Rhu Jung-Ak’s life and poetry world in the 19th century. Hang Wa inherited the Hwaseo School, who had acted up to his belief with developing his academic capability even in the conflict between tradition and modernization the result of infusion of western civilization. At that time he was not easily carried along by the world of poetry to seek the things of newfangled and sensuous, but faithfully took a perspective that every word must contain the teachings of Confucianism(載道論的 文學論). In his poems he deplores the reality about collapse of traditional order and social conditions which sympathize with the stream of the day, and exposes roundly the Restoration returning to the old system. Lastly, he shows us the great attitude to remain aloof and to fulfill his duty as an confucian scholar despite such reality which fall short of his expectation.
