The restroom is spaces to support new activities in another space and extension of living space. This study aims to evaluate the barrier-free degree of the restroom for the physically disabled at Daegu municipal libraries in order to promote the library to activate. Thus, it intends to provide basic data to a plan for a new restroom to build or supplement convenient facilities of a library to be utilized as a place for information use and cultural activities by the disabled as equally as the non-disabled.
Analysis was made on 8 municipal libraries in Daegu which had been built prior to implementation of the Convenience Improvement Assurance Act by classifying closet bowl, urinal, washhand stands. and the others based on such items as compliance with facilities installation standard availability and it’s classified accessibility(ease of movement and access) and convenience(ease of use of convenience facilities) about the order of items in Facilities that appear from the library entrance to the inside of the toilet with 3 points allotment.
The evaluation result was as follows; 2.58 points for accessibility; 1.56points for convenience; and, average evaluation point for all the subjects was 1.90. It was discovered that following items were insufficient indication of guidance, emergency calling device, handle of urinal, suitable standard height of the washhand stands for a rehabilitation aids user. Accordingly, it would be imperative to carry forward a research to enhance the definitude of installation standards of convenient facilities for the quality improvement of living environments.
