The concepts of human rights have formed from the modern historical context. This article grasped substances of the civil-political rights and the social-economic rights as its specific contents, and examined the theological justification for its.
Grasping the civil-political rights and the social-economic rights as human rights, means to establish specific ethical norms to evaluate our society. The Korean society, that achieved economic industrialization and political democratization in a short period, shows serious problems on both sides. While Korea succeeded in economic development, structural inequalities deteriorated. Because of this, survival rights of ordinary people are being constrained, and substantial progress in democratization is difficult.
Especially, despite workers played the most important role in economic development, their legitimate rights are still not guaranteed. In addition, because of the economic polarization many poor people"s livelihoods are seriously under threat. In recent years, degradation phenomena at the level of procedural democracy are becoming serious.
Appreciating the significance of human rights requires the establishment of ethical norms to evaluate such realities and to provide alternatives. Furthermore, examining the theological justification for historically and socially formed human rights, means to provide an alternative by establishing concrete ethical norms to evaluate today"s social realities from the perspective of Christian faith.
