A recent study found that the glass may show pozzolanic reaction during the hydration reaction of cement, and thus improve the physical features of hardened concrete and the rheological features of not fully hardened cement, effectively reducing bleeding and hydration heat.
This study aimed at finding out whether or not waste LCD glass powder could be used as an admixture for concrete through assessing the qualities of the powder as an admixture for concrete. To this end, the study compared concrete containing waste LCD glass powder an admixture including the fluidity of not hardened concrete, the strength of hardened concrete, the possibility of showing pozzolanic reaction, change in the length of hardened concrete.
According to the results of an experiment, the workability of not fully hardened concrete containing waste LCD glass powder was better than that of concrete containing Plain when the proportion of waste LCD glass powder replaced was around 20 percent. The value for the amount of air in the concrete met the KS regulation. In addition, the cement bleeding and bleeding rate increased as the proportion of waste LCD glass powder replaced rose. With regard to the strength of hardened concrete, concrete containing waste LCD glass powder displayed similar or better strength than concrete containing plain when the proportion of waste LCD glass powder replaced was between 5 and 15 percent. Furthermore, concrete containing waste LCD glass powder showed less change in length than concrete containing plain when it was dried. Therefore, it is thought that if waste LCD glass powder is grinded as finely as cement or admixtures currently being used, it can be used as an admixture for concrete.
