This study aims to examine the possibility of transforming self-sufficiency community enterprises into cooperatives. For this, depth interviews and focus group interview(FGI) with representatives of self-sufficiency community enterprises in Gyeong-gi province are conducted. The coding system is composed of the "reality of self-sufficiency community enterprises" and "cooperative operation".
Major findings are as follows. Firstly, some parts in operating system of self-sufficiency community enterprises are found to be similar to those in cooperatives. This supports the possibility of transforming self-sufficiency community enterprises into cooperatives. Secondly, some limitations on transformation are found to be apparent, which includes vulnerable economic achievements, fragile autonomy system, and weak human capital of self-sufficiency community enterprises.
