This article mainly dealt with the conflicts among multinational oil companies and social communities in the Nigeria. However, These conflicts have been prolonged from last decades but Nigeria is currently experiencing deeper turmoil of conflict, since the transition of military civilian rule. Political changes after June 1998, the conflict between oil companies and village communities in the Nigeria seems endless. Since the MOSOP protests from 1990’s, other ethnic and political groups across Nigeria began to joint conflicts on oil activities. Seizures of oil installations and kidnappings of oil company staff have become serious problems in the oil producing areas. The source of conflicts such as the abandonment of the oil producing areas and the operating practices of oil companies have not yet been satisfactorily collared by the government or the oil companies.
The conflicts in the Nigerian oil industries are important beyond academic interest. Nigeria is the most populous and the largest African state. Oil is the basis of Nigeria’s economy. Oil revenue accounts almost over 60% of the Nigerian government revenue and it provides majority of Nigeria’s foreign income through the oil production. Thus, The oil conflicts gets deeper Nigeria might lose quantity of oil and gas investment from domestic and foreign. Therefore, resolving the Nigeria’s oil dispute is one of the key challenges facing to the Nigerian government.
