Zhuangzi’s unique idea about language and meaning and way of saying led to the differences in the history of interpreting zhuangzi. Searching the meaning of text is an idea of Western ancient hermeneutics. People also regard Zhuangzi’s meaning as the standard judging the interpretation of Zhuangzi all along. In fact, although the interpreters of Zhuangzi flaunt to discover Zhuangzi’s meaning, they always didn’t limit to interpret objectively but interpretcreatively. We can make a conclusion from their different interpretation s about the word “Xiaoyao”: Zhuangzi has not the only correct interpretation, so we should respect the differences of interpretation and continue to under stand and interpret it.
