Unstiffened plates are integral part of all kinds of structures such as ship and offshore oil platforms. Holes are unavoidable and absolutely reduce the ultimate strength of structures. In this study: the finite element analysis package, ABAQUS, is used to analyze the behavior of unstiffened plate with rectangular hole. The form of rectangular is divided into two cases. In easel hole"s depth is constant but hole"s width is variable. On the contrary, hole"s width is fixed md hole"s depth is different Besides, for the two different form hole, the effect of plate slendemess ratio (β), area ratio of hole (AR) md position ratio of hole (PR) on the ultimate strength of plate with hole under axial compression are presented It is found that the ultimate strength of plate with easel hole varies much more with plate slenderness ratio (β) md hole ares ratio (AR) than case2 hole. However: for easel position of hole (PR) almost has no effect on the ultimate strength whereas, regarding case2, the influence of hole position (PR) depends on the plate slenderness ratio (β). Based on nonlinear regression analysis、three design formulae are not only developed but also approved reasonably for the practical engineering design.
