This study aimed 1:0 examine the effect of a partner finn’s characteristics and commitment on the learning performance of strategic alliances in Korean small and medium companies. To test the hypothesis, 90 Korean small and medium companies were surveyed via E-mail, mail. The results of the study were as follows; First, the learning performance of small and medium companies were greater when they formed alliances with firms with higher reputation and organizational similarity(complementarity in alliance resources, strategic fit). Also, information sharing was a positively related to the learning performance.
Second, reputation, reliability, information sharing, quality of communications, organizational similarity and systematic management among partners were a positively related to the commitment.
Third, commitment in strategic alliances was a positively related to the learning performance.
Fourth, commitment regarding strategic alliance was found to be an intervening variable between partner’s characteristics and 1earning performances of strategic alliance.
These results suggest that Korean small and medium companies can enhance learning performance gains when they carefully combine some factors regarding partner’s characteristics with commitment.
