Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the decreased effects of the workload depending on the change of footboard angle in the squatting work postures. Background: Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders(WMSDs) was the leading causes of disease in the industrial setting. It was known that the squatting posture was the main risk factor for WMSDs. Method: This study chose the angle change of footboard as the experiment conditions and then the Borg"s CR-10 Rating Scale was used to assess the level of subjective discomfort. For this study, the footboard angles were divided into 0°, 5°, 10° and 15°. The discomfort was subjectively assessed in the whole body, lower back, upper legs, lower legs, knee and ankle after 4 minutes static posture. 7 healthy male subjects participated in the experiment designed to measure perceived subjective discomfort. Results: It was shown that the ankle(p<0.05) and the lower legs(p<0.1) had a significant difference in the subjective discomfort depending on the change of footboard angle in squatting work posture. However, subjective discomfort had no difference between the footboard angle and the other body except the ankle and the lower leg. Each body part during squatting work posture showed the largest discomfort in the footboard angle of 0°. Conclusion: The subjective discomfort decreased when the footboard was used, compared with no footboard. Application: These results can be used to provide baseline information for ergonomic research and ergonomic product design in the industrial setting. It will also be helpful to improve the work environment and the work method.
