The aim of this study is to find out the traditional construction method of men’s upper clothes-Jegories- in Chosun dynasty. First I classified the excavated clothes 62 items to 9 types. second I analyzed the correlation of measuring values, verified the difference of jegory between hansam, searched the change of jegory. Conclusions are described as followes:
1. Jegory, Hansam and Jeksam are classified in 9 types by construction style, the form of mu and dang Construction styles are divided into wadded, twofold, unlined type; mu and dang are sorted by existence and form. And materials are related to construction styles, used silk, cotton, linen.
2. There are two main types: with mu and dang, without mu and dang. In the type of without mu and dang, wadded clothes changed to twofold in 19C, it’s the former of modern jegory. Jegory was recorded as O(?), Oja(?子), it means wadded clothes. Chekuli(哲谷立) and Chihkuli(赤古里) were chinese for korean pronunciation. Unlined clothes of this type was Hansam, and most of them were made by silk.
3. With mu and dang type appeared in 15C-17C, wadded clothes of dang type was similar to jegory and unlined clothes was jeksam by materials.
4. In the result of statistical analysis, length of all clothes Influenced on the other measuring value mostly, width(1/2) and godae were independent factor. In the result of analysis of without mu and dang type, length and width(1/2), width of git and width of gutsup were dependent factor. And the ratios of godae, width of git, jindong, length to width(1/2) of clothes were 0.6, 0.35, 1.1, 2.2. Comparing jegory with hansam and jeksam, a size of jegory was mostly large, hansam and ieksarn had longer sleeves than jegory’s sleeves. Men’s jegory was slowly changed to be longer and wider during chosun dynasty, it was different from woman’s jegory.
