e-Trade can be defined as "trade activities exchanging goods and services among countries in an electronic and information-integrated way using information technologies such as Internet." In other words, it is the automation of complex trade procedures requiring huge amount of information processing and transmission using information technologies. Thanks to these environmental changes, workers in trade companies can focus on more productive tasks such as marketing or development of new markets instead of time-consuming paperworks and trips to administrative organizations. Korea started active researches and investments to improve the efficiency in international trade procedures in early days. Consequently, it has required comparative short period of time to have the advanced level of IT-enabled trade infrastructure to be accepted in real business environment in comparison with other countries. In addition to the proactive investments in public sector, the trade industry in Korea has effectively handled the fast-changing world trade conditions and the academia has continuously put efforts to build successful bridges between IT and trade fields. It is not exaggerated to say that Korea"s achievements so far in the economy and its trade competence are the results of the successful cooperation among three parties of industry, academy and government. In this paper, the research trends in e-Trade field are briefly examined and the tasks are proposed for the future. Also, u-Trade Hub, Korea"s e-Trade platform, is structurally analyzed and compared with other countries" trade environments.
