Indoor thermal environment made by excessive light and heat through glass facade of curtain wall structure should be improved and alternatives which can effectively control the insolation is need. In this study, transparent amorphous silicon BIPV window system was suggested as an alternative.
Accordingly, in this study, a-Si BIPV window and common clear window installed on the mock-up at the same time for evaluating surface temperature characteristics compared to common clear common window. As a result, surface temperature of BIPV window had been kept high by average of 1.79℃ during nighttime in winter and high by average of 0.59℃ during daytime in summer than Clear window. When BIPV window was installed in the building, MRT keeps low by average of about 3℃ in winter and by about 8℃ in summer than when clear window was installed. The room where BIPV window was installed was comfortable over 3,634 hours during a year. Also, the time corresponding to the range of PMV from -0.5 to 0.5 was about 15.3% with BIPV window and about 7.3% with clear window for a year.
Finally, it was demonstrated that BIPV window could be an alternative to improve thermal comfort apart from power generation and building energy performance.
