Transshipment refers to the practice of transferring goods from a store with stock to satisfy the demand of a store with insufficient stock. We suggest a theoretical inventory model with transshipment between two independent firms. Our model is different from others in that we consider transshipment between two independent firms and that firms should respond to the other’s transshipment request at any time even before its own demand is satisfied. We use poisson distribution for demand and the newsvendor model for inventory model. With the possibility of transshipment, two independent firms should decide their optimal inventory levels without knowing the other’s strategy (inventory level). We model this situation as a game and predict the game result by searching for Nash equilibrium.
