The experiment was carried out at University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore during 2010~11. Cucumber flowers were visited by 28 species of insect pollinators, of which twenty species belong to order Hymenoptera, 2 species to Diptera, 4 species to Lepidoptera and 4 species to Coleoptera. Honey bee species constituted 84.88percent of the total insect pollinators compared to 15.11percent of other pollinators. The peak foraging activity of insect pollinators were recorded between 1,100 to 1,300 h of the day. The maximum time spent by different honey bee species for pollen foraging was recorded at 0900h on male flowers, whereas nectar foraging on both male and female flowers was recorded at 1200h of the day. The effect of modes of pollination on quantitative parameters such as fruit set, fruit weight, fruit volume, fruit length, number of sound seeds, test weight and fruit pressure were maximum in open pollination (94.60%, 1619.09g, 1621.88ml, 33.46 ㎝, 451.31, 5.29g and 31.05㎏) compared to honey bee pollination. Among honey bee pollination, fruit set, fruit weight, fruit volume, fruit length, number of sound seeds, test weight and fruit pressure were maximum in A. cerana (88.26%, 1510.68g, 1516.61ml, 28.35㎝, 425.10, 4.11g and 27.34㎏) compared to A. florea (85.42%, 853.10g, 867.78ml, 30.66㎝, 395.83, 3.41g, and 24.68㎏) and T. iridipennis pollination plot (84.33%, 784.59g, 791.78ml, 20.56㎝, 324.94, 2.84g and 22.71㎏).
