This paper has attempted to offer a cursory survey of the application of the message of Revelation in the discussion of the relationship between the withdrawal from pagan society and the witness to Jesus Christ. As an introductory discussion, the second chapter has suggested three specific perspectives in order to read Revelation appropriately: the consideration of historical and sociological context of original setting of Revelation; the apocalyptic approach; and the ethical reader-response view. And, in the third section, this paper has attempted separately to point to the message of withdrawal from pagan society and witness to Jesus Christ. In that discussion, it was argued that Revelation seems to provide strong teaching and encouragement for today’s Christians. Thus, in fact, John uses apocalypticism as a lever which is long enough to move the Greco-Roman world and its definitions of reality, and to replace them with the counter-definitions which allow for a strong Christian counterculture to maintain the prophetic stance; the Christian has to remain faithful to the testimony of Jesus without compromise to the demands of the pagan secular society. As a conclusion of this paper, in the fourth chapter, I have tried to show holistically the relationship between withdrawal from pagan society and witness of Jesus Christ through the perspective of worship. Thus, ‘Worship toward God’is the fundamental call of Revelation as well as the actual response about the message of the withdrawal from pagan society and the witness to Jesus Christ. Therefore, it seems to me, the prophetic voice of this study is that today’s Christian needs to draw into the place of ‘worship toward God’ from pagan world, and simultaneously from the place we need to stretch out to the all nations and peoples with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
