Adopting niche theory from organization ecology, this study analyzed business news competition among four media platforms: network television, newspaper, Internet, and SNS. On-line survey was conducted to examine the level of obtained gratification and gratification opportunities provided by the four platforms. Findings showed that the Internet has been positioned as the most general media by showing the widest niche breadth. On the other hand, newspaper was the lowest in the niche breadth. The results also revealed that strong competition exists between network television and newspaper, and between the Internet and SNS. Regarding the competitive superiority, the Internet has gained superiority over other platforms and traditional mediahave lost their competitiveness. Meanwhile, newly emerging SNS expands its role as news platform in the dimension of personal financial information and easiness of use. Since newer platforms are advantageous in achieving gratification opportunities, traditional media should be keen on developing differentiated content and service in business news.
