Objective: The aim of this study is to develop a checklist for evaluating usability effectively of digital interactive kiosk that is influenced by environment, appearance, and users in public spaces. Background: Different types of digital interactive kiosk have various problems in several public spaces. However, there is no method to evaluate them effectively so far. Method: To do this, we apply heuristic evaluation method to develop a checklist for digital interactive kiosk. Above all, we reviewed a total of 134 usability principles from previous literatures and conducted a field investigation. Next, we screened out a total of 19 usability principles among them in terms of digital interactive kiosk and added an indispensable principle related to attribute of digital interactive kiosk. And then we redefined 20 usability principles. The screened principles are categorized into four groups systematically using card sorting method. Lastly, usability principles for each group are developed as the checklist items, so a total of 59 items are produced on a 7-point likert scale. Results: We evaluated different digital interactive kiosks currently in operation using developed checklist. As a result, we are gained the advantages and disadvantages of each digital interactive kiosk effectively. Conclusion: In this study, we developed a checklist that was optimized for evaluating usability of digital interactive kiosk in several public spaces. Application: The results could be expected to be utilized the guidelines for improving usability of the existing digital interactive kiosk and designing the futuristic digital interactive kiosk.
