This study aims to investigate the main topic and tendency of Diaspora literature written by Korean Japanese. For this purpose, this study focused the Diaspora literatures published in Japan from 1950 to 2000. Through analyzing what was revealed in these books, this study tries to explore the similarities and differences among them.
According to the previous research, homeland and nation. However, these existing studies on Diaspora literature still remain at the level of introducing specific literary product, so this study tries to analyze the de-ethniciziation and de-territorization process in the national identity and national consciousness of Korean Japanese literatures in the global era through exhibiting the literary products specifically.
The results show that the topics of Diaspora literatures of Koreans in Japan after the liberation were national writing, motherland and nation, ideology and struggle, homesickness and national consciousness in the early time, and then with a tendency of de-nationalization and de-territorization in the global era. In the era of globalization, the Diaspora literatures of Koreans in Japan reflect the difference and contradiction among countries, ideologies and generations as well as the actual severe individual life of Korean Japanese beyond discrimination and alienation. This study claimed that the hybridity and global world view of these Diaspora literatures written by Koreans in Japan could supply an important implication for understanding the denationalization, de-ideology and de-territorization life of Koreans in Japan. In the process for the individual life of Korean Japanese becoming a global topic and entering the mainstream society, it can reflect the global world view of Koreans in Japan which exhibit the tendency and power of Diaspora literature. The Diaspora literatures of Koreans in Japan based on the hybridity which has been admitted as one genre of global literature stressing the universal value under the tendency of global era.
In additional, the central topics of the literatures written by the 1stand2ndgenerations of Korean Japanese were national consciousness and separation ideology. However ,the3rdgeneration represented by YuMi-Ri, Hyon Wol and Kaneshiro Kazuki take the topic of individual problems of Koreans in Japan such as family, love, language and the meaning of human being’s existence, the loneliness of modern people, etc. which were also the common topic of Japanese, which also indicate that there is a different tendency for the development of Diaspora literature. Therefore, the development process of Diaspora literature can be summarized as: national consciousness and national identity in the early age→ ethnic difference→ de-ethnic and denationalization→ individual Diaspora experience.
In the future, as a research task, beside the introduction of Diaspora literature written by Koreans in Japan in this study, it is necessary to discuss and analyze these literatures in depth.
