Practitioners and academics all need an integrated view of the way a finished good is managed from point to point of the chain. Then, global and integrated analyses of supply chains, throughout particular cases are necessary to increase our knowledge. The starting point of our research project was to expertise a complete international supply chain in order to underline the key factors and the opportunities of performance improvement.
The main result ofthis research program was to underline that:
ㆍ SCM is, in the real economic life, a quite classical concept which is not very different from the M. Porter’s framework;
ㆍ the only chance to invent the future is to change the way of thinking from a firm-centric to a process-centric vision (concept of supra chain management);
ㆍ to properly practice Supra Chain Management, one must stand outside of pre-existing organizations;
ㆍ not so far, from utopia and under new governance conditions, ports could play the role of 《visible inter-firms hand》 and become the key actor of the international supply chain performance improvement.
