Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the meanings and nature of professionalism of advanced practice nurses (APN) working in hospital. The present study adopted a hermeneutic phenomenological method which was developed by van Manen. Methods: The participants for this study were 3 women, who were over 8 and 10 years as APN. Data were collected by using in-depth interviews and observations from December, 2010 to December, 2011. The contents of the interviews were mp3-recorded with the consent of the subject. Results: The essential themes that fit into the context of the 4 existential grounds of body, time, space, and other people were: "being skillful body", "being pleasure of nursing", "working for the hospital as the APN demonstrating professionalism, but for me without legal responsibility", and "living with distinction doctors and other nurses". Conclusion: These findings revealed that living in the world by professionalism of APN is affected to varying degrees. It is important to identify role of APN, to take care of own professionalism to support patients, and to distinguish other nurses, and other healthcare workers.
