Recent research works on urban regeneration have focused on the potential of neighborhood which is formed on a basis of the concept of ‘community-oriented’ and ‘area-based’. This paper aims to summarize the main value of neighborhood in the process of urban regeneration through the case study of Coin Street Community Builders. Analysis of the case gives the lesson that social values and community welfares are expanded by the transfer of capital gains created by the community-initiated asset development projects.
This paper also tries to analyze the development of British urban renewal policies over the changes of political powers. As a result of the analysis, it suggests that the main concept of neighbourhood renewal is an approach that brings together the resources and ideas of residents, governments, businesses and community groups to tackle disadvantage in areas with concentrations of public housing, job creation, and community welfare.
This paper also tries to analyze the development of British urban renewal policies over the changes of political powers.
