The purpose of this research is to analyze characteristics of visitors who use recreational forests, in and around metropolitan areas, as a tourist destination, in order to enhance visitors’ experiences of those recreational forests.
The results indicate that most users want to spend quiet time away from the city. A recreational forest can be a suitable place for that. However, it is not a suitable place for those tourists who desire new and unfamiliar experiences. There are other more suitable destinations for those tourist. Recreational forest tourists demonstrate a strong desire to revisit the recreational forest with the intention of gaining a similar experience to their previous visit.
Since the number metropolitan dwellers is significant, there is an immense potential for recreational forests to provide services for those users. In order for recreation forests, that are located in and around metropolitan areas, to fully function in their role as destination for those tourists seeking quiet time away from metropolitan areas, they need to maintain an atmosphere of quite, develop a variety of hiking trails, and provide hiking guides for their users.
