This study is comparatively to analyze the plot-structure of the film “Love” and “A Bittersweet life” through Poetics of Aristotle. These films are chosen for good or bad response or feedback from viewers and found the reason of its sophisticated plot-structure. This study is meant to look into the plot-structure of the movie “Love” anad “A Bittersweet life”, based on principles that Poetics of Aristotle mention in order to constitute an elaborated plot. So, this study is mainly to clarify and present the integral elements or requirements in film scenario that Korean films should gain to be even more successful in many ways.
After reviewing probability and necessity, unity, tragic action of hero, the catharsis of affliction and pleasure effected by pity and fear, reversal and recognition, complication and denouement, I point out the following. Firstly, characters and plot of “A Bittersweet life” have more unity than those of “Love”. “Love” yet become way off the mark or way out of line in that it tries to choose and combine those Secondly, “Love” represents weak senses of probability and universality in its plot, and there are many events which are far from either integral or causal. But “A Bittersweet Life“ is excellent in probability and universality. Therefore, viewers can feel stronger catharsis through fearfulness and sympathy in “A Bittersweet life” than in “Love”. Thirdly, the plot of “A Bittersweet Life“ may be classified as so-called unity on the other hand “Love” may be called complex plot.
One can say that because interpretation and response about poetics of Aristotle can vary, depending on which days and times we live in, this research result is limited Nevertheless, given that the poetics of Aristotle is regarded as and even called the bible of tragedy up until now, in light of its criteria, this study may serve as alternative guidances and perspectives on plot-structure of popularity in Korean movies.
Nevertheless, given that the poetics of Aristotle is regarded as and even called the bible of tragedy up until now, in light of its criteria, this study may serve as alternative guidances and perspectives on plot-structure in Korean romantic movies.
