Current authentication model, which is service provider-centric and isolated, has many problems such as low usability, high cost structure, difficulty in privacy protection, and lack of trust infrastructure. Recently, in order to solve those problems, various types of shared authentication models which allow many service providers to share the authentication information of an authentication provider have been developed. However, in spite of their advantages, the shared authentication models are not widely accepted in real Internet world. This paper analyzes the problems of current Internet authentication environment and development status of shared authentications. And then, this paper proposes future development directions for the shared authentication so as to enhance the Internet authentication environment.
