The occasion of 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup changed the awareness of membrane materials and heightened interest in the material to result that many membrane materials have been used for buildings. PTFE series membrane material in which PTFE is coated on glass fibers that is widely used in permanent structures, PVC series membrane material in which PVC or PVDF is coated on polyester fiber, ETFE membrane material that is transparent and progessively applied to buildings domestically these days can be mentioned as the typical membrane materials. And recently Tensotherm, a kind of membrane materials that is made by sandwiching nano fibers in between ETFE membrane materials, which acts to improve heat insulation property, is developed and used improving the defects of membrane material such as poor heat insulation property and soundproof performance. And to keep pace with the worlwide interest in environment environment-friendly membrane material was in the process of development such that 100% recyclable membrane materials are developed and used. Though so many membrane materials have been developed it is rare to understand and to use them as architectural structure materials in practice. Since membrane materials have no strong position in domestic architectural structures and they are not fully understood until now as architectural structure materials so that they are regarded as the materials for temporary buildings at this moment. In case of Japan the materials were accepted as architectural structure materials long ago and have been used in permanent buildings.
