Many customers inhale second hand smoke in coffee shops because the shops contain smoking areas inside. To analyze indoor air quality, levels of carbon dioxide and formaldehyde were measured inside coffee shops. Results revealed that coffee shops have excessive levels of carbon dioxide and formaldehyde. Regarding the methods of ventilation, it was discovered that ceiling ventilation reduced carbon dioxide levels by 25% and reduced levels of formaldehyde by 42%. Ventilation by air purifier machines reduced carbon dioxide levels by 51% and formaldehyde levels by 90%. Opening the windows in the smoking areas of coffee shops reduced carbon dioxide levels by 60% and formaldehyde levels by 74%.
