The purpose of this study was to examine if there are any relationships between fanship and cultural value orientation based on the significant others of high school students. In order to answer the designated research questions, the study first tested if there are any relationships between individualism-collevtivism and fanship for the South Korean national soccer team. Controlling for gender and school year, the current study also examined if fanship differences exist across significant others. Thirdly, this study tested if there are any differences related to cultural value orientation between fans classified by significant others. The survey subjects for this study were 355 high school students. The study found that fanship is positively related to both total individualism and total collectivism. Another finding of this study indicated that there is a positive relationship between fanship and competition, one of the subfactors of individualism. Finally, the outcomes indicated that fans who selected friends as their own significant others scored higher than other fan groups on collectivism, although fanship did not differ by significant others.
